Polls open for today’s Scarborough Southwest provincial byelection from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

It’s Election Day in the Scarborough Southwest provincial byelection. Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 3. 

The position became available when Doly Begum left the provincial NDP to run for Member of Parliament in the same riding for the Liberal Party. She won that seat in an April byelection.

The seven candidates running in today’s provincial byelection in Scarborough Southwest are Mark Bekkering of the Green Party; Gord Eliott of the Ontario Party; Ahsanul Hafiz of the Liberal Party; independent Michael Perdelwitz; Chris Rees of the New Blue Party; Fatima Shaban of the NDP; and Noor Tarun of the Progressive Conservative Party.

Advance polls for this byelection were open on Aug. 26, 27 and 28.

According to Elections Ontario, 4,352 voters (5.2 per cent of the registered voters) cast their ballots in Scarborough Southwest in the advance polls. That turnout is more than in February 2025’s full Ontario election that saw 4,061 people (5 per cent of the registered voters) cast their ballots in the advance polls in Scarborough Southwest.
