UPDATE: Police in 55 Division receive second report of Halloween candy with pins in them

Police in East Toronto’s 55 Division are now investigating reports of Halloween candy having been tampered with in two separate and isolated incidents.
In a news release early on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 3, police said they were aware of two reports of needles and pins found in Halloween candy and issued a warning to the public.
Police said they are investigating separate incidents involving Halloween candy collected in the Main Street and Swanwick Avenue area and also in the Jones Avenue and Gerrard Street East area.
In both incidents, the candy was collected by trick-or-treaters on Halloween night (Saturday, Oct. 31).
Investigators “have determined that the trick-or-treating routes did not overlap,” said the Nov. 3 police news release.
In the Main and Swanwick area incident, police said a sewing needle and a pin were discovered in two separate pre-wrapped commercial Halloween treats.
In the Gerrard Street East and Jones Avenue area incident, police said two separate pins were discovered in two separate pre-wrapped Halloween treats.
In both incidents, police said none of the needles or pins were consumed and there were no injuries reported.
The investigations remain ongoing, said the Nov. 3 news release, and police have not received any additional reports at this time.
Police said residents are encouraged to carefully inspect any candy collected while trick-or-treating. Anyone who discovers anything unusual or concerning is asked to contact police.
Anyone with information can call police in 55 Division at 416-808-5500.
