Toronto police are investigating reports of Halloween candy containing sewing needles being given out over the weekend in the Upper Beach area.
According TPS Media Relations Officer Shannon Eames, police received one call reporting small needles placed in Halloween candy over the weekend in the area of the Upper Beach.
“We have received one call for service in relation to a report of small needles in candy, in the Upper Beaches area. I am not aware of any injuries being reported,” Eames told Beach Metro Community News in an email on the morning of Monday, Nov. 2.
She said the investigation remains ongoing and that TPS have not received any other reports related to tampered Halloween candy in the area but urged residents to contact police if they have concerned about candy that was collected over the weekend.
According to a report by CP24, a resident in the area reported that his family visited several streets including Enderby Road, Norwood Road, Kimberley Avenue, Benlamond Avenue and Osborne Avenue and candy that had been tampered with was later discovered in his children’s trick-or-treat bags.
“This remains an ongoing investigation and at this time we have not received any other reports,” said Eames. “If a resident has concerns about candy that was collected, please contact police.”
