Architecture of Frank Darling subject of The Beach and East Toronto Historical Society presentation on Oct. 7

The Beach and East Toronto Historical Society (TBETHS) will host a presentation by architect and author David E. Winterton on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Beach United Church.
Winterton will speak about his recently published book Toronto Edwardian: Frank Darling, Architect of Canada’s Imperial Age.
Darling was born in Scarborough in 1850 and grew up in the East Toronto area before studying architecture in England. His architectural legacy is represented by Edwardian Baroque buildings across Canada including the University of Toronto’s Convocation Hall. Darling is buried in St. John’s Norway Cemetery at Kingston and Woodbine roads.
Winterton’s presentation will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Along with talking about some of Darling’s more famous buildings in downtown Toronto, the presentation will also highlight some of the buildings designed by Darling that are in the Beach and East Toronto area including one on Benlamond Avenue.
Those wishing to attend are reminded that the new location for TBETHS presentations is Beach United Church at 140 Wineva Ave.
