Six candidates registered in Beaches-East York federal byelection
Six candidates have officially registered to run for Beaches-East York MP on Aug. 31.
On Aug. 4, parties announced their candidates. Now, all are listed on the ballot.
As of Aug. 12 at noon, those running for the seat are Tanveer Shahnawaz of the Liberal Party; Cameron Thomas of the Canadian Future Party; Shannon Devine of the NDP; Michel Lachance of the People’s Party of Canada; Bruce Livesey of the Green Party; and Jim Sybros of the Conservative Party.
Voting day is Monday, Aug. 31, and advance polls will be taking place on Friday, Aug. 21; Saturday, Aug. 22; Sunday, Aug. 23; and Monday, Aug. 24.
The byelection was called when Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith officially resigned on July 7.
A debate is also set to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Calvary Baptist Church (72 Main St.) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Other federal byelections are taking place in Chicoutimi-Le Fjord in Quebec and North Vancouver-Capilano in British Columbia.
