Deja Views: Beach wedding celebration remembered 49 years later

The wedding photo Debbie and Barry taken at Ivan Forrest Gardens in the 1970s.

I now pronounce you….married for 49 years! May I introduce you to Debbie and Barry Higgins.

After taking their vows at the Corpus Christi Parish (opposite the race track on Queen Street East) the wedding party scooted off to Ivan Forrest Gardens for pictures.

The group from left to right: Nancy Sims, (still a Beacher) Carol, Lena, Debbie, Barry, Steve Trotman, and Barry’s brothers, Greg and Paul.
Sadly, brother Paul has recently passed away. Many Beachers will remember Paul’s record shop that he ran in the 1970s and ’80s on Queen Street East (sunny side, close to Lee Avenue).

Not long ago the Higgins decided to move back to the Beach.

If you see them on the Boardwalk, be sure to congratulate them on their upcoming 50th anniversary! I asked Debbie if she had any advice to share for younger newlyweds, and she replied: “Be friends, compromise and just love each other.” Thank you Debbie and Barry for being such good sports, I wish you continued love and happiness.

Say, is there an old wedding photograph of you in the Beach you’d like to share with our readership? Please contact me at gdvandyke61@gmail.com
