The U18 AA Ted Reeve Thunder hockey team are Ontario champions.

The team won the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) crown with a 5-3 victory over the Burlington Eagles on the afternoon of Sunday, April 19, in Kitchener.

Scoring for the Thunder in the championship game were Trevor Cotton (with two goals), Landon Kim, Jared Seto, and Ryder Harris. Between the pipes for Ted Reeve in the title game was goalie Quinn Charles.

Andy Johnstone, general manager of Ted Reeve Thunder, said the team members showed what can be accomplished when commitment and belief come together.

“Every player contributed to the journey, embracing their role and pushing one another to improve each day.  It wasn’t just talent that carried this team—it was their dedication to development, their trust in each other, and their shared goal of reaching the very top,” said Johnstone in a statement sent to Beach Metro Community News.

A key factor in the team’s success was the leadership behind the bench, he said. With a new and exciting head coach (Kevin Webster), the Thunder found fresh energy and direction, and the coaches instilled confidence, discipline, and a system that allowed players to thrive, said Johnstone.

He said the guidance of the coaches helped turn the players’ potential into performance, and shaped a team that played with both structure and heart.

“Winning the provincial championship is more than just a title—it’s a testament to years of sacrifice, growth, and unity. The Ted Reeve Thunder has had four team make it to the OHF over the past 10 years and have set a standard for what it means to compete with integrity and pride,” said Johnstone.

The Thunder earned their trip to the OHF championship tournament which took place from April 17 to 19 in Kitchener by winning the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) title earlier this month.

The U18 AA Thunder took the GTHL crown with a 1-0 Game Five championship series win over the Mississauga Beast on Friday, April 10.

At the five-team OHF championships, the Thunder opened the preliminary round with a 6-2 win over the Brantford 99ers on Friday, April 17. They followed that up with a 4-0 win over the Burlington Eagles later that day. On Saturday, April 18, the Thunder beat the Soo Jr. Greyhounds 7-5, and then wrapped up the preliminary round later that day with a 1-0 loss to the host Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

The Thunder’s strong showing in the preliminary round set the team up for a semifinal showdown with the Soo Jr. Greyhounds on the morning of Sunday, April 19, which Ted Reeve won 4-0.
