Balmy Beach Rugby’s sand tournament at Woodbine Beach set for next Sunday

The Balmy Beach Rugby Club is preparing for its annual sand rugby tournament next weekend at Woodbine Beach.
The action is set for Sunday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to noon.
This year’s tournament will see about 30 teams from seven different Greater Toronto Area (GTA) clubs, including Oakville and Aurora, playing across the U6, U8, U10 and U12 boys and U12 girls age categories.
The event has been a fixture for more than a decade and is a highlight of the mini and youth rugby seasons for Balmy Beach. Games are played barefoot in the sand on the beach instead of with cleats on grass.
Also on July 12, Balmy Beach’s U14 girls and U14 boys teams will be playing on the grass at Tubs and Gee Gage Field in traditional rugby matches.
The ‘beach’ rugby will be taking place on the sand near the Woodbine Bathing Station.
