Deja Views: Remembering Grimaldi Brothers Fruit Market at Kingston and Scarborough roads

This photo shows the Grimaldi Bros. Fruit Market at the corner of Kingston and Scarborough roads as it looked in 1931.

By DAVID VAN DYKE

This archival photograph (at left) taken by an unknown photographer depicts two businesses on the northwest corner of Kingston and Scarborough roads in 1931.

Grimaldi Brothers Fruit Market switched to selling flowers in 1955.

Today, the fourth owner and operators, Emily Shabsove and Cole Walker, are both born and raised Beachers who attended Malvern Collegiate.

Special thanks to Eric Shabsove for providing info and the photograph.

  1. It’s sad to see that the former Randall’s stationary store in the left of the current photograph is now a failed and abandoned cannabis dispensary. I used to deliver gum and chocolate bars to Randall’s when I was a driver for A.S. Taylor and Son Tobacco Wholesalers at 1813 Danforth Avenue in 1973 and 1974. I suppose all things must pass, as George Harrison once said, but I’d still rather have a useful stationary store than another empty shell in the neighbourhood.
