Centre 55’s annual Soup Supreme Competition took place last Thursday, with three local restaurants competing for the honour of winning the coveted Silver Ladle Award.

Corbin Catering and Foods took home the trophy at the event held on Thursday, Feb. 26, at Centre 55 on Main Street. It was the third time Corbin Catering and Foods has won the Silver Ladle.

Last year’s champion was The Kingston House, which also took part in this year’s competition along with Hutchie Catering & Caribbean Restaurant.

The event is a fundraiser for Centre 55 and sees local residents pay an entrance fee to sample the soups from the restaurants competing.

The guests then vote on which soup was their favourite, and the restaurant with the most votes at the end of the evening is awarded the Silver Ladle.

The competition also helps bring community members together while supporting both Centre 55 and helping to promote local businesses.

Centre 55’s Special Events Coordinator Jennifer Jeynes said the hub has a unique ability to bring people together, with strong mutual support encouraging community members to come out and participate.

“We’ve had this competition for many years now. It is always a great way to bring the community together,” said Centre 55’s Executive Director Reza Khoshdel.

“Food is just such a great way to connect people. It’s one of those things where regardless of whatever walks of life you come from, cultural background, age doesn’t matter. Food brings people together.”

Along with the three competing restaurants and their soup offerings, Cobs Bread provided the bread for the event.
