Disabled train near Union Station stalls GO trains across GTA; long delays expected

A disabled train near Union Station snarled GO train service across the GTA during the morning commute, leaving riders facing long delays and widespread service disruptions on several lines.
“There is a disabled train near Union Station. Repair personnel are working on the issue, but there may be delays of up to two hours,” reads a statement on the GO Transit website. “There may be trip cancellations and modifications until the issue is fixed.”
Trains stuck at Union Station are not moving through the area until the issue is resolved, with other trains across the city also being held at GO stations until normal operation resumes.
The Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Milton, Kitchener, Richmond Hill, Barrie, and Stouffville lines are all experiencing significant delays as a result of the problem.
According to the GO Transit’s Service Guarantee, commuters who experience train arrival delays by 15 minutes or more are eligible to be credited for what they paid for their trip. Exceptions include extreme weather conditions, including Environment Canada advisories, watches, and warnings.
This also includes severe winter weather conditions when GO Transit operates on a special schedule.
While work is ongoing to resolve the issue, Metrolinx has advised Toronto commuters to take the TTC as an alternative travel option to Union Station.
