Jones Avenue Adult Learning Centre celebrates official re-opening with building tour and ribbon cutting

By ISABELLE FERNANDES

More than five years after a destructive fire, the Jones Avenue Adult Learning Centre in East Toronto is reopening.

To celebrate,  the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is hosting an open house allowing the community to tour the renovated facility from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

Completed in 1910 as Earl Grey School and becoming Jones Avenue School in 1969, the three-storey heritage building suffered severe damages after a fire in May of 2019.

Renovation work began at the Jones Avenue school in early 2020.

Thursday’s open house will allow visitors to take a self-guided tour of the school between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Those planning on attending are asked to enter the school by the north doors, beside the Jones Avenue parking lot. There will be limited parking available in the lot north of the school, and at neighbouring Earl Grey Senior Public School.

The Jones Avenue school offers many adult learning programs including English as a Second Language (ESL).
