Bowmore Road Junior and Senior Public School was evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in a classroom just before 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4.

Fire crews were called to the school, at 80 Bowmore Rd., for reports of a fire and when they arrived they found smoke and visible flames in a second-floor classroom.

Students from the school were evacuated by teachers and gathered on the west side of the school in Fairmount Park. Toronto Fire Media told Beach Metro Community News that there were no reported injuries in the fire.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, but are still on scene for clearing smoke from the building.

Toronto Fire Media said it expected to allow students back into the school early this afternoon.

“There was minimal damage in the fire room (classroom where the fire took place), and we’re just doing the cleanup now. Hopefully, we should be allowing people back shortly once all the smoke has cleared,” said Toronto Fire Media.

Bowmore Road Junior and Senior Public School is located south of Gerrard Street East and east of Coxwell Avenue.

Toronto Fire Media said it did not have information regarding the cause of the fire at this time.
