Beaches/East York Federal Candidates’ meeting on April 25

Beach Metro News, in cooperation with Community Centre 55, will be hosting a Beaches/East York Federal Candidates meeting on April 25 at St. John’s Norway Church (470 Woodbine Ave. at Kingston Road). The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. sharp.

Candidates from the Liberal, NDP, Conservative and Green parties have been invited to participate in the debate.

Running for the Liberals is incumbent Maria Minna, who has represented Beaches/ East York in Ottawa since 1993. A strong advocate for women and immigrants, Minna was once Minister of International Cooperation.

Matthew Kellway is the candidate of the NDP. He is completing his PhD in Political Science and has held a variety of positions with trade unions since 1991.

Bill Burrows is running for the Conservatives. He has been active in the Kew Beach Neighbourhood Association’s fight against a proposed development on Kippendavie Avenue.

The candidate for the Green Party is Aaron Cameron, who is a life-time Beacher. While teaching English in Korea, he had the opportunity to help clean up a major oil spill, which solidified his green political interests.

These candidates have also been offered a space in Beach Metro’s April 19 issue to make their case to the voters.

St. John’s Norway has adequate parking and is wheelchair accessible.
