Historic Walk along Queen Street East in the Beach set for Saturday, Sept. 26
Queen Street East in the Beach will be the focus of a Historic Walk planned for this Saturday afternoon.
The walk will be hosted by Beach historian and Beach Metro Community News columnist Gene Domagala. It will begin at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26, and participants are asked to gather at the Beaches Library on Queen Street East just west of Lee Avenue.
Featured on the walk will be numerous spots of local historical and cultural interest.
Along with learning about local history, walk participants will also be able to test their knowledge regarding how much they know about the Beach community along Queen Street East.
In his Beach Memories column in last week’s Beach Metro Community News, Domagala said Saturday’s walk will include information about famous athletes and athletic events, movie directors and producers, current and former movie theatres on Queen Street East, and how specific streets and parks in the area received their names.
“There are also many historic buildings and other historical events that will be mentioned on this walk,” wrote Domagala. “But I can only say that to find out more you need to come on the walk and learn about them for yourself.”
And speaking of park names, Domagala was honoured last week with an East Toronto park being named after him. The new Gene Domagala Park is located at 144 Stephenson Ave., just southwest of the intersection of Main Street and Danforth Avenue.
