Reminder: Polls for Beaches-East York federal byelection open until 9:30 p.m. tonight
Voters in today’s Beaches-East York federal byelection are reminded they have until 9:30 p.m. to cast their ballot.
The polls in the byelection are open for 12 hours today, starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing until 9:30 p.m.
Six candidates are running to become the new MP for Beaches-East York after former MP Nathanial Erskine-Smith stepped down from the position on July 7.
The candidates are Shannon Devine of the NDP; Michel Lachance of the People’s Party of Canada; Bruce Livesey of the Green Party; Tanveer Shahnawaz of the Liberal Party; Jim Syrbos of the Conservative Party; and Cameron Thomas of the Canadian Future Party.

Along with Beaches-East York, federal byelections are also taking place today in the ridings of Chicoutimi-Le Fjord in Quebec, and North Vancouver-Capilano in British Columbia.

Also, Elections Canada issued a news release earlier today reminding East Toronto voters that today’s (Monday, Aug. 31) byelection is for the federal riding of Beaches-East York and that the provincial byelection in neighbouring Scarborough Southwest will take place on Thursday, Sept. 3.
“Electors in Beaches–East York should note that there is also a byelection under way in the nearby provincial riding of Scarborough Southwest. Elections Canada does not run provincial byelections,” said the news release. “Electors with questions about the current provincial byelections in Ontario should visit Elections Ontario’s website or call them at 1-888-668-8683.”
Elections Canada said results from tonight’s federal byelection will be able to accessed once polls close by going online to https://enr.elections.ca/ElectoralDistricts.aspx
