A Back to School Rally in support of community involvement in the public education system is planned for this Saturday in East Toronto.

The rally will emphasize the importance of local school trustees and how they represent community members in Toronto’s public education system.

Set for Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, the rally will take place at the Coxwell Common (Robinson Parkette) at 1555 Danforth Ave. just west of Coxwell Avenue.

The rally is being organized by East End parents and is part of a province-wide day of action protesting changes to the public education system being made by the Ontario government.

In Toronto, those changes include both the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board now being run a government appointed Provincial Supervisor. Also, the Toronto District School Board has seen the number of elected trustees cut from 22 to 12 by the province for this October’s upcoming municipal election.
