Four days of advance voting in Beaches-East York federal byelection begins today

Advance polls for the Beaches-East York federal byelection will be open as of 9 a.m. this morning.
The hours for the four days of advance polls are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21; Saturday, Aug. 22, Sunday, Aug. 23; and Monday, Aug. 24.
Election Day, for those not voting in the advance polls, is on Monday, Aug. 31. Polls on Election Day will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Six candidates are running in this byelection to become the new MP for Beaches-East York.
The candidates are Shannon Devine of the NDP; Michel Lachance of the People’s Party of Canada; Bruce Livesey of the Green Party; Tanveer Shahnawaz of the Liberal Party; Jim Syrbos of the Conservative Party; and Cameron Thomas of the Canadian Future Party.
The byelection was called on the morning of Sunday, July 26, by Prime Minister Mark Carney. Along with the vote in Beaches-East York, other federal byelections slated for Aug. 31 will be taking place in Chicoutimi-Le Fjord in Quebec and North Vancouver-Capilano in British Columbia.
The federal seat in Beaches-East York became vacant after Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith officially stepped down from the position on July 7.
