E-scooter operator dies after collision with van in the Port Lands

A 43-year-old man has died after a collision involving an E-scooter in the Port Lands last night. 

On Wednesday, July 29 at approximately 7:39 p.m., police responded to calls for a collision in the Leslie Street and Unwin Avenue area. 

According to police, a 54-year-old man was driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van westbound on Unwin Avenue. The 43-year-old man was operating an E-scooter eastbound on Unwin. Police said the scooter lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the van.

The scooter operator was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, said police.

An investigation is currently underway and police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dashcam footage of the incident, to contact them.
