Candidates’ meeting for Beaches-East York federal byelection set for tonight

A meeting featuring some of the candidates running in this month’s federal byelection in Beaches-East York is slated for tonight.
The candidates’ meeting will take place at Calvary Baptist Church, 72 Main St. (south of Gerrard Street East and north of Kingston Road), on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Tonight’s event is presented by the Daily Bread Food Bank in partnership with Calvary Baptist Church (which is also home to the Calvary Grace Food Bank). Moderator for the meeting will be Centre 55 Executive Director Reza Khoshdel.

The federal byelection in Beaches-East York will take place on Monday, Aug. 31.
The six candidates registered to run in the byelection are Shannon Devine of the NDP; Michel Lachance of the People’s Party of Canada; Bruce Livesey of the Green Party; Tanveer Shahnawaz of the Liberal Party; Jim Sybros of the Conservative Party; and Cameron Thomas of the Canadian Future Party.
Invited to tonight’s meeting were the candidates from the Conservative Party, Green Party, Liberal Party and NDP. Organizers said that the Conservative candidate will not be attending the meeting, but the candidates from the other three invited parties will be. People’s Party of Canada candidate Lachance said he will be outside the event this evening to speak with voters who want to talk to him.
