East End Community Health Centre celebrates benefits of investment from Ontario Trillium Fund

Beaches-East York MPP Mary-Margaret McMahon recently met with the team at the East End Community Health Centre (CHC) to see how the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has helped the facility improve access to programs and services for the community.

“I am thrilled to see that East End Community Health Centre has expanded their outreach with the OTF (Ontario Trillium Foundation) Capital grant” said McMahon during her visit on Thursday, June 18.

“Not only do they provide a huge range of medical services, wellness programs, and community initiatives aimed at fostering healthier, more connected lives in the East End of Toronto, they are even more accessible and available!”

The OTF  is a provincial agency dedicated to building healthy and vibrant communities across the province. From 2025 to 2026, the OTF invested nearly $107 million into 746 community projects aimed towards enhancing economic well-being, supporting child and youth development, providing spaces for people to gather and connect, creating a more sustainable environment, and fostering active lifestyles.

Awarded to the East End CHC last summer, the $200,000 grant has seen the facility make several significant improvements, including the installation of automatic door openers, replacement of deteriorating flooring and handrails, fresh paint throughout the space, and the addition of accessible furniture and inclusive artwork “designed to foster a welcoming and comfortable environment,” according to a June 18 media release.

The CHC provides a range of medical services and wellness programs, and with the support of the Trillium Fund, members of the community will have access to a “safer, more accessible, and more inclusive environment.”

“This investment has had a tremendous impact on our centre and the community we serve,” said Adrienne MacDonald, Chief Executive Officer of East End CHC.

“These improvements help ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcome, safe, and able to fully access the programs, services, and supports they need. We are incredibly grateful for this funding, which will strengthen community health, wellbeing, and connection across East Toronto for years to come.”

In an interview with Beach Metro Community News, Macdonald said the grant has helped the facility make improvements that wouldn’t be possible through their operational budget.

“Our base budgets for operations and salaries don’t include the amount that is required to maintain a building, so things like these capital grants through the OTF are extremely important because it’s something that would fall outside of our regular budget,” said MacDonald.

Since 2000, the East End CHC has continued to provide comprehensive health services and community programs designed to help bolster the health and well-being of area residents.
