Jazz choir 8 TO THE BAR set to swing into summer this Sunday at Beach United Church

Beach United Church’s Jazz & Reflection series concert this Sunday afternoon will feature 8 TO THE BAR.

Local jazz choir 8 TO THE BAR swings into summer at Beach United Church at 140 Wineva Ave. this Sunday afternoon.


The choir will perform a mix of popular jazz standards and more. Featuring guest bassist George Koller, Dr. Steven Webb on keys, and Sheila Brand directing, the program ranges from Birdland and God Bless the Child to Wade in the Water and The Pink Panther.


The May 31 concert starts at 4:30 p.m. and is part of Beach United’s Jazz & Reflection series.

Along with the concert, attendees who arrive early can take in the final day of the Beach Guild of Fine Art’s Spring Show and Sale.


Beginning as a teachers’ choir 16 years ago, 8 TO THE BAR has evolved into an ensemble of 20 women and men singing jazz, blues, gospel and classic pop.


Special guest bassist and multi-instrumentalist Koller is a classically trained, first-call Toronto jazz player, composer and producer. Brand, the founder and director, performed leading roles in London and Broadway, then taught at the Sheridan College Musical Theatre program. Pianist Webb is Director of Music at Beach United and a composer, performer and sound designer who creates new music and video art.
