East Lynn and Withrow parks to host events as part of the Earth Day Globe Walk this Saturday

Toronto East Residents for Renewable Energy (TERRE) will be among local groups organizing the Earth Day Globe Walk, beginning at Bluffer’s Park in Scarborough and concluding at Humber Bay Shores in Etobicoke.
The walk takes place from 6 a.m. to sunset, with participants covering the 25 kilometres between the two parks with local stops along the way. Those taking part in the Earth Day Globe Walk are welcome to do the entire route or register for portions of it as part of a relay.
Locally, the walk will be making stops at East Lynn Park, Danforth Avenue just west of Woodbine Avenue); and Withrow Park, between Carlaw and Logan avenues just south of Danforth Avenue.
East Lynn Park will welcome the participants with a number of activities from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The stop at nearby Withrow Park is slated for 10:30 a.m. to noon.
East Toronto residents are invited to stop by the local parks to cheer the participants on, and to sign a petition calling for Ontario to triple its use of renewable energy and phase out its fossil gas plants, and to respect Indigenous land rights.
The petition will be presented to the Ontario Legislature on Earth Day (April 22).
Groups involved are ARCA, Seniors for Climate Action Now, Toronto East Residents for Renewable Energy, The Red Rebels Toronto, ClimateFast, Toronto350, Ontario Clean Air Alliance, Toronto Climate Action Network, The Elementary Teachers of Toronto, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Green Neighbours Networks, Urban Alliance for Race Relations, and Clay and Paper Theatre.
The walk starts at Bluffer’s Park (foot of Brimley Road) where participants will meet at 6 a.m. for an opening sunrise celebration led by Indigenous elders Cat Kriger and Sally Gaikezheyongai.
Along with East Lynn and Withrow parks in East Toronto, the walk will also be making stops at Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor St. W. from 1 to 2 p.m.); Matt Cohen Park, 393 Bloor St. W. from 2 to 3 p.m.; Christie Pits, Bloor Street West and Christie Street, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.); and High Park, 1873 Bloor St. W., from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. The walk finishes at Humber Bay Shores Park, 15 Marine Parade Dr.
