Community Police Day at Jimmie Simpson Park among many local events set for today

There’s lots to do in East Toronto on this Saturday, May 10, including the 55 Division Community Police Day at Jimmie Simpson Park.
Presented by the 55 Division Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free 55 Division Community Police Day event is open for all residents to attend. Jimmie Simpson Park is located at 872 Queen St. E., at Booth Avenue.
There will be a variety of events taking place including police vehicles for visitors to look at, and bicycle safety information.
Those attending can also learn how they can help keep the community safe with crime prevention resources.
The day also gives 55 Division residents a chance to meet their Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) members, share ideas or concerns, and find out how we work together to build a safer neighbourhood.
There will also be family-friendly games, activities and demonstrations.

Historic Walk through former Town of East Toronto
Main Street and the former Town of East Toronto will be the focus of an historic walk being hosted on Saturday, May 10, by Gene Domagala.
A local historian, and columnist for Beach Metro Community News, Domagala is asking participants in the walk to meet him at 1 p.m. on the northwest corner of Main Street and Danforth Avenue.
The walk will visit a number of buildings and areas of interest in the area including churches, the Grand Trunk railroad lands, the library on Main Street and Lyall Avenue south of Gerrard Street East.
Rusty Dragons Open House
Rusty Dragons will be hosting an open house information session the afternoon of Saturday, May 10, to encourage more people to take part in dragon boating. The session will also inform the public about the activity.
Founded in 2005 by local dragon boater Tim MacFarlane, Rusty Dragons Adventures is a non-profit, recreational organization that has teams for people of all abilities and walks of life.
The open house on May 10, is encouraging new participants who have no experience in dragon boating or paddling to give it a try. During the open house, those attending will be given the opportunity to take a ride in a dragon boat.
The Rusty Dragons open house will take place at the Outer Harbour dragon boat site at 480 Unwin Ave., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Spring Bird Festival
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) hosts its annual Spring Bird Festival at Tommy Thompson Park this Saturday, May 10.
Bird watchers, families, and nature lovers to the park on the Leslie Street Spit where more than 334 bird species have been recorded.
Tommy Thompson Park is one of the Greater Toronto Area’s top bird watching destinations and is a vital stopover for migratory birds.
Saturday’s festival is free to attend and open to all. It takes place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tommy Thompson Park is located at 1 Leslie St.
