Federal Election 2025: Julie Dabrusin re-elected for fourth consecutive term as Liberal MP for Toronto-Danforth

By JOSHUA McGINNIS
Julie Dabrusin has been elected as the Liberal MP in the Toronto–Danforth federal riding for the fourth consecutive time.
“It feels great. This has been such an amazingly positive campaign, and you see this room of people; there are still so many people still volunteering and still busy. It’s been amazing to see all of the people who have come together to make this campaign a success, and I’m honoured that they gave me their time,” she said.
Dabrusin spoke to Beach Metro Community News during election night while hosting a watch party for her supporters at Black Lab Brewing Company on Eastern Avenue on Monday, April 28.
Dabrusin finished first in the Toronto–Danforth riding with a total of 39,191 votes, accounting for 66.6 per cent of the electorate. She has represented the riding since her first election in 2015.
Ashik Hussain of the Conservative Party finished second in the riding with 11,187 votes (19 per cent of the vote). Clare Hacksel of the NDP placed third with 7, 626 votes (13 per cent of the vote), followed by Silvia Stardust of the Green Party with 626 votes (1.1 per cent of the vote) and Liz White of the Animal Protection Party with 251 votes (0.4 per cent of the vote). Those numbers are from Elections Canada with all 204 polls reporting.
Once again winning the federal seat for Toronto–Danforth, Dabrusin said she hopes to represent the riding well for the next term.
“The first goal is to make sure we have a strong voice for the community, for the City of Toronto. We have really important issues that we are facing on affordability, on making sure we have strong public transit and housing but also making sure we are a part of the conversation when we are talking about how do we stand up for Canada in this trade war with (President Donald) Trump,” said Dabrusin.
The federal Liberal government held onto its position as a minority government with the newly elected Liberal leader Mark Carney at the forefront, beating out the Conservative Party and its leader, Pierre Poilievre.
With the Liberals remaining in power federally, Dabrusin spoke about the goals her party hopes to tackle when Parliament reconvenes on May 26, 2025.
“I know that our community really also cares that we have a progressive voice that stands up for the environment, that stands up for arts and culture, and I’m going to be there every step of the way to make sure that’s always a part of the conversation too,” said Dabrusin.
