Author Ira Wells will present a heritage talk for The Beach and East Toronto Historical Society (TBETHS) on the night of Wednesday, Oct. 16.
From 7 to 8:15 p.m., Wells will talk about his book Norman Jewison, A Directors Life, at the Beaches Sandbox, 2181 Queen St. E.

Wells’ book was released in 2021, prior to Jewison’s death in January of 2024.
According to his own autobiography, Jewison has many “fond memories of growing up in the Beach.”
The TBETHS will continue its heritage talk series in November.
Award-winning Canadian author Sheila White will speak on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Her talk will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Beaches Sandbox. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
White will discuss her book The Letters, Postmark prejudice in Black and White, the story of a white woman from a traditional Nova Scotia family who risks it all by falling in love with a Black man.
A Nova Scotia native, White comes from a notable family that includes famed Baptist minister and First World War hero, the Rev. Capt. Dr. William Andrew White and the iconic Black concert singer Portia White to name a few.
White was the 2022 recipient of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for the province of Nova Scotia.
