Residents invited to help out at Glen Stewart Ravine’s Annual Autumn Cleanup this Sunday

Residents are seen at last spring’s Glen Stewart Ravine cleanup in this Beach Metro Community News file photo. The ravine’s Annual Autumn Cleanup event is slated for this Sunday, Oct. 18.

Friends of Glen Stewart Ravine are inviting all local residents to join them for the Annual Autumn Cleanup this Sunday.

Those wishing to take part are asked to meet at the ravine’s Beech Avenue entrance, just south of Kingston Road, on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants are asked to bring water, gloves, and to dress appropriately as they need to be prepared to get dirty. Bags and treats will be supplied by organizers and sponsors of the cleanup, including coffee from The Black Canary.

Volunteers are asked to be extremely careful on the slopes of the ravine in order to protect the sensitive and environmentally significant area.

Glen Stewart Ravine is 11 hectares in size and is home to a wide diversity of plant and bird life, and is one of the few Red Oak woodlands left in Toronto.

Both spring and autumn cleanups are hosted every year by Friends of Glen Stewart Ravine, a group working to protect the ravine from overdevelopment and other environmental threats.
