Toronto Votes 2026: Three candidates already registered to run in Beaches-East York for open council seat

The municipal election in Toronto will take place on Monday, Oct. 26.

Following the opening last week of registration for candidacy in the 2026 Toronto municipal elections, here is a list of candidates for city councillor signed up so far in the East Toronto wards covered by Beach Metro Community News.

Registrations opened on the morning of Friday, May 1; and as of noon on Monday, May 4, these are the registered candidates for city council.

In Beaches-East York, candidates registered are James Dann, Tycen Legg, and Adam Smith. The ward’s current city councillor is Brad Bradford, who is registered to run in the upcoming mayoral race.

Scarborough Southwest has just two names registered at the moment: Rachel-Ariel Karokis, and Philip Mills. Parthi Kandavel serves the ward as the current councillor.

There are currently no candidates registered to run for city councillor in Toronto-Danforth, where Councillor Paula Fletcher currently serves.

Candidates have until Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. to register their papers to run for the positions of mayor, city councillor, or school trustee. This year’s municipal elections will take place on Monday, Oct. 26.

Please note that residents who wish to complete the candidate nomination process must do so in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office at 100 Queen St. W. between Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Filings will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the last day of the nominations period (Aug. 21).

Beach Metro Community News will periodically update information on candidates registering to run in the wards of Beaches-East York, Scarborough Southwest and Toronto-Danforth. We will also let readers know about campaign launches as we receive information about them.

To that end, Dann in Beaches-East York has a campaign launch celebration slated for Wednesday, May 6, at Judy’s Café, 2188 Queen St. E. The event goes from 6 to 8 p.m., with overflow space two doors down at The Druid Bar.
