The Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club is crying foul over a decision by the Ted Reeve Community Arena Board of Directors to keep the ice in on the main rink during the summer; a decision that effectively pushes the lacrosse club (including the Toronto Beaches Junior A team) out of the facility.

The Junior A team has been a long-time member of the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League and plays its regular season games at the arena in May and June.

In response to the decision by the arena board, the Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club has started a petition calling for the action to be reversed.

The following letter from the lacrosse club appears on the Change.Org petition:

“Open Letter to Members.

“Hello Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Members, Alumni and Supporters.

“As many of you are aware, on December 2nd the Ted Reeve Community Arena Board of Directors voted to keep the ice in the main rink throughout the summer months, effectively relocating Toronto Beaches Minor Box and Jr. A Lacrosse out of Ted Reeve Arena, a place they’ve used for decades.

“As you can imagine this news came as a complete surprise to the Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club (TBLC) who were told by the Chair of the Ted Reeve Board via email that ice scheduling and allocation decisions at Ted Reeve Arena were being pushed out to January 2026.  We feel deceived by a group we’ve had a decades long partnership with.

“As the TBLC Board we believe the Ted Reeve Board acted in bad faith and in the absence of meaningful consultation from community stakeholders.  This decision pushes the board and the facility as a whole further and further from their mandate to serve the whole community’s interests.   We intend to fight this decision while also formulating a “plan b” with the City of Toronto and Councillor Brad Bradford’s team should we need one.

“TBLC has been working closely with (Beaches-East York) Councillor Brad Bradford’s team to get answers and work through official City of Toronto channels to reverse this harmful decision.  Councillor Bradford, who is a member of the Ted Reeve Board, was not in attendance at the December 2nd meeting because he had a scheduling conflict that evening. Just like TBLC, Councillor Bradford was explicitly informed that the Arena schedule and allocation discussion/vote would not be taking place in the Dec 2nd meeting.

“We need your support.  Please sign our petition to reverse the decision made by the Ted Reeve Board. Let’s show the Ted Reeve Board, City Council and the City of Toronto just how important lacrosse is to the community.

“Yours Truly. Board of Directors. Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club.”
