Leslieville resident Shawna Fletcher is continuing her Share What You Can Food Drive for Nourish East End Food Bank.

As the fundraiser enters its sixth year, Fletcher continues to work alongside the community, ensuring the wellbeing of those in need.

After seeing how the community was impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fletcher started her Share What You Can Food Drive, aiming to give what she can, while inviting others to do the same.

With her friend Whitney Taylor, Fletcher creates and staples 1,000 flyers to bags, before delivering them to houses in the Leslieville neighbourhood, encouraging residents to donate non-perishable food items and household essentials.

Taylor, who came up with the idea of providing donation bags, says that last year’s food drive was a big success.

“Just two people can make a difference,” said Taylor. “Do anything you can.”

Fletcher and Taylor delivered the bags on Nov.12, and will be collecting them up on Nov. 24, before delivering them to Glen Rhodes United Church where the Nourish East End Food Bank operates.

“There is really nothing so heartwarming as collection day. Seeing the bags waiting for us on the porches, watching the car fill up with donations, it fills my cup. People want to help, but life is busy, so we try to make it simple for them,” explained Fletcher.
