Fire at Danforth Avenue sports bar ruled arson, police investigation underway

Toronto police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a fire at a Danforth Avenue sports bar and restaurant that has been ruled an arson.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, at approximately 3:26 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a call for a fire at the Blue Gin Sports Bar, 681 Danforth Ave., on the south side just east of Pape Avenue.

There are apartments above the restaurant and reports indicated firefighters had to rescue two people from the building’s roof by ladder. There were no injuries reported in the fire.

Police said in a news release on Oct. 8 that the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire was caused by arson. 

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have dash camera or video surveillance to contact police.
