QUESTION 1: Please tell our readers a little bit about yourself and why you are running in this election?

I am running for Member of Parliament because our community deserves a strong voice that truly represents our needs.

Having grown up in this riding and now raising my two children here, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges we face. I have graduated from the University of Toronto and am currently employed at the Salvation Army Headquarters in their estates department. I am currently a member of ACORN and serve as a treasurer on the Regent Heights Public School School Council.

I aspire to be a Member of Parliament who is deeply engaged and responsive to the issues affecting our lives. It’s crucial to have someone who doesn’t just talk about change but actively participates in it.

Through my involvement with ACORN and my role on the school council, I have committed myself to addressing the concerns that matter most to us. I have stood up to corporate landlords and mobilized our neighbours because I believe in the power of community action. People reach out to me because they know I genuinely care and am ready to help. Together, we can create a future where every voice is heard and valued.

QUESTION 2: Why is your party and your party leader the best one to deal with the threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, and how will your party support Canadians impacted by tariffs and other American policies towards Canada?

The NDP and our leader are uniquely positioned to address the threats posed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies. We understand that tariffs will disproportionately impact middle and low-income individuals, further straining their financial situations. Our party has a proven track record of advocating for the most vulnerable in our society, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are prioritized.

To support Canadians affected by these tariffs and other American policies, we are proposing an expansion of Employment Insurance (EI). This expansion will provide much-needed assistance to those who find themselves out of work or facing reduced hours due to economic pressures.

Additionally, the NDP is calling for the implementation of a comprehensive trade strategy that prioritizes Canadian jobs and industries, as well as investing in domestic manufacturing to reduce our reliance on U.S. imports.

We also advocate for a strong approach to trade negotiations, ensuring that any agreements protect Canadian workers and their rights. The NDP is committed to standing up for Canadians, fighting for fair trade practices, and ensuring that our policies protect the livelihoods of everyday people. We believe in creating a strong, inclusive economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

QUESTION 3: Beyond Canada’s relationship with the United States, what do you see as the next most important issue in this election and how will you and your party address it?

One of the most pressing issues in this election is the rising cost of living, which is deeply intertwined with the affordable housing crisis.

Many Canadians are struggling to make ends meet as housing prices soar and everyday expenses continue to rise. The NDP recognizes that access to affordable housing is a fundamental right, and we are committed to addressing this crisis head-on.

To tackle the cost of living, we propose a comprehensive plan that includes building more affordable housing units, implementing rent control measures, and increasing support for those facing housing insecurity. Our solutions also involve creating a national housing strategy that prioritizes low- and middle-income families, investing in public housing, and ensuring that all Canadians have access to safe and stable homes.

In addition to housing, we are focused on other key areas to alleviate the cost of living. This includes advocating for a higher minimum wage, expanding Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, providing support for families through increased child benefits, and introducing a cap on grocery prices to help families manage their food costs.

We also aim to reduce the cost of essential services, such as healthcare and education, to ensure that all Canadians can afford the necessities of life. By addressing these interconnected issues, we aim to build a more equitable and just Canada for all.
