Variances denied for Queen Street LCBO

An application at the Committee of Adjustment for a raft of variances at 1986 Queen Street East has been denied.

A proposal for an LCBO outlet on the site of the current Pier 1 Imports store had included a number of variance requests, including reduced setbacks on all four sides, as well as a height just over a metre above the maximum permitted height of 12m.

The Committee’s decision to refuse the application was based on several reasons, including not maintaining the general purpose of the Official Plan or the zoning bylaw, the variances not being desirable for the appropriate development of the land, and “in the opinion of the Committee, the variance(s) is not minor.”
