Toronto Votes 2026: Today is municipal Election Day and the polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Toronto’s municipal election takes place today, Monday, Oct. 26. The polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters can cast their votes today (Monday, Oct. 26) in the 2026 Toronto municipal election.

Today’s vote will determine who will be city’s mayor, as well as giving residents the opportunity to elect the city councillor for their ward and a school board trustee.

Eligible voters are required to vote at their assigned voting place on Election Day. Voters can find out where to cast their ballot by looking on their Voter Information Card (VIC) or by visiting the Toronto Elections webpage at https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/elections/?WT.rd_id=%2FElections

Voters can also check the Toronto Elections webpage to determine whether they’re on the voters’ list, view examples of acceptable identification, print or download their VIC, check accessibility information about their voting place, and review a sample ballot and the list of candidates in their ward.

Voting places will be open on election day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

To avoid excessive lineups, the city has advised voters to consider voting during off-peak hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Although voting places close at 8 p.m., those who enter the line by 8 p.m. will still be able to vote.

To help speed up the voting process, the city also encourages voters to bring their paper or digital VIC when they go to vote.

There are 53 candidates running for mayor.

For Beach Metro Community News readers, voters can cast their ballots in Ward 19 Beaches-East York, Ward 20 Scarborough Southwest or Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth depending on which ward they live in.

In Beaches-East York there are 13 candidates running for the councillor position. They are Syeda Jaana Ali, James Dann, Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Fatima Ibrahimi, Natalie Johnson, Kevin Morrison, Karsten Riedel, Mohammad Shabani, Adam Smith, Austin Vieira, Jeff Wahl, Devin Wilkins, and Jennie Worden.

In Scarborough Southwest there are eight candidates on the ballot for the councillor position. They are Laikul Choudhury, Naser Kaid, Parthi Kandavel, Ariel-Rachel Karokis, Luigi Lisciandro, Sharmina Nasrin, Mohammad Ali Reza, and Kevin Rupasinghe.

In Toronto-Danforth there are 18 candidates on the ballot for the councillor position. School trustees are also being elected for the Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, the Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French public school board): and the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French Catholic school board). Voters select their trustee depending on which school board they are supporters of and eligible to vote for.

This year’s election may prove a bit confusing for voters who elect Toronto District School Board (public board) trustees. The Ontario government cut the number of trustees almost in half earlier this year and instead of 22 TDSB trustees to be voted in this year, there will only be 12. That has led to the merging of wards and some notable absences among those registered to run for TDSB trustee seats.

For East Toronto voters this means the TDSB wards that used to separately cover Beaches-East York and Scarborough Southwest have been merged into one that will be called Ward 10. For those who had a public school trustee representing their ward of Toronto-Danforth, that has now been merged with two downtown wards to become Ward 5.

Neither of the incumbent TDSB trustees for Beaches-East York or Toronto-Danforth are seeking re-election.

There are nine candidates registered to run for the TDSB trustee position in Ward 10. They are Malik Ahmad, Azim Dewan, Karen Emerson, Ahnaaf Hassan, Md Sazibul Islam, Glenn Kremp, Shawn Li, Jocelyne Poirier, and Marisa Sterling.

There are nine candidates registered to run for the TDSB trustee position in Ward 5. They are Eina Feyginberg, Andrene Gregory, David Guylas, Jared Kolb, Maureen Larkin, Andrew Massey, Gus Stefanis, Janine Viret, and Jennifer Volk.

For East Toronto voters selecting Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustees, the two wards that are included in the Beach Metro Community News coverage area are Ward 11 (which takes in part of Beaches-East York and Toronto-Danforth) and Ward 12 (which includes Scarborough Southwest).

Registered to run in the TCDSB’s Ward 5 is incumbent trustee Angela Kennedy, and Anton Perera. The only candidate registered to run in the TCDB’s Ward 12 is incumbent Nancy Crawford, so that position can expect to acclaimed.

Some portions of Conseil scolaire Viamonde’s Ward 2 and Ward 3 are included in the Beach Metro Community News coverage area. In Ward 2 there is only one candidate registered, Benoit Fortin, so an acclamation can be expected. In Ward 3, the two candidates are Jean-Francois L’Heureux and Anna-Karyna Ruszkowski.

The Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir board only has two wards in Toronto, and the one making up the eastern half of the city (Ward 4 Toronto Est) has three candidates registered to run for trustee. They are Rhea Dechaine, Clescadine Gustave and Derek McNulty.

To be an eligible voter in the 2026 municipal election, a person must be a Canadian citizen over the age of 18, and a resident in the in the City of Toronto; or a non-resident of Toronto, but they or their spouse owns or rents property in the city.
