Toronto Votes 2026: Beach Metro reporters and Centennial College journalism students ready to bring you local election night coverage

Voters across east Toronto are heading to the polls to elect their next mayor, city councillors and school board trustees in the municipal election.
Beach Metro Community News will be following the city council races, bringing readers results, reactions and updates from the three wards we cover: Ward 19 Beaches-East York; Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth; and Ward 20 Scarborough Southwest.
Beach Metro staff reporters Matthew Stephens, Jessica Shackleton and Julia Sawicki will be on the ground covering the city council races in Beaches-East York under the guidance of editor Alan Shackleton, who will be covering Scarborough Southwest.
They’ll be joined by journalism students from Centennial College, who will be reporting from campaign watch parties and capturing reactions as the results come in.
Centennial students Zina Ayoub, Amna Bakr and Camilo Rosenau will be covering the Toronto-Danforth race, while Marco Chow will help with coverage in Beaches-East York. Parissa Sanjarani and Austin Kelly will be following the mayoral race.
Covering local elections is an important part of what we do at Beach Metro Community News. Just as important is our commitment to supporting the next generation of journalists.
Beach Metro provides opportunities for journalism students to gain hands-on experience in a working community newsroom, and our election night collaboration with Centennial College is a great example.
We’ll be posting election results, reactions and photos on BeachMetro.com as coverage comes in tonight and into Tuesday morning.
Polls are open until 8 p.m. tonight. Get out and vote! Click this link to check out our Election Hub for election and candidate information.
