Toronto Votes 2026: Toronto-Danforth councillor candidate Sara Ehrhardt profile

Sara Ehrhardt is running for the Toronto-Danforth councillor position in this month’s municipal election.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Local voters will cast their ballots on Monday, Oct. 26, in Toronto’s municipal election. Along with voting for mayor and school trustee, local voters will also be electing a new councillor for Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth.
There are 18 candidates running for the council seat in Toronto-Danforth. The seat is open as incumbent councillor Paula Fletcher announcd in August that she was stepping down after representing the area for the last 23 years. For this Candidate Profile feature, Beach Metro Community News reached out to the candidates who we could find contact information for and asked them to send their profile and a photo in by a set deadline. We are only printing the profiles of those who responded by the deadline. The 18 candidates registered to run for councillor in Toronto-Danforth in this month’s municipal election are Maqsood Ahmad, Susan Chapelle, Michael Connor, Dennis Corcoran, Robb Dagenais, Peter De Marco, Sara Ehrhardt, George Fawcett, Mary Fragedakis, John Kladitis, Michael Mitchell, Caryma Sa’d, Dianne Saxe, Devyn Stackhouse, Jason Stevens, Christiane Tetreault, Maria Voutsinas and Denise Walcott.)

In 2016 I co-founded Toronto East Enders for Child Care. We were a group of young parents that advocated for more accessible and affordable childcare. Then in 2017 the City tried to close my local pool, where my son would need to learn to swim. I organized with local parents and we took a stand. We got the funding restored.

During the pandemic I remained involved through local school council organizing and in 2022 I was elected as a public school trustee. As your voice at the School Board I helped get cellphones out of elementary schools, and fought against Doug Ford’s cuts to education, standing up for students, educators and parents.

I have loved serving our community, and now I want to bring that same energy and commitment to deliver for us at City Hall.
As trustee I made it a priority to hold Metrolinx accountable during construction of the Ontario Line and to ensure that students could get to school safely and learn in a safe environment when they were there.

At City Hall my priority will be making life more affordable, making our public spaces and services work for everyone, and making it easier to get around, whether you’re walking, cycling, driving, or on transit.

I will always work with the community and residents to be your voice. I’ve already worked with school communities in every part of the ward and as Councillor I will be your representative, wherever you live in Toronto-Danforth.

I have a degree in engineering from Waterloo and public policy from Harvard, and I have worked across Canada and internationally, focusing on environmental and natural resources management.

I’m grateful for Beach Metro Community News for giving candidates this space and for continuing to keep the East End informed of local community news.
