Toronto Votes 2026: Toronto-Danforth councillor candidate Jason Stevens profile

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Local voters will cast their ballots on Monday, Oct. 26, in Toronto’s municipal election. Along with voting for mayor and school trustee, local voters will also be electing a new councillor for Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth.
There are 18 candidates running for the council seat in Toronto-Danforth. The seat is open as incumbent councillor Paula Fletcher announcd in August that she was stepping down after representing the area for the last 23 years. For this Candidate Profile feature, Beach Metro Community News reached out to the candidates who we could find contact information for and asked them to send their profile and a photo in by a set deadline. We are only printing the profiles of those who responded by the deadline. The 18 candidates registered to run for councillor in Toronto-Danforth in this month’s municipal election are Maqsood Ahmad, Susan Chapelle, Michael Connor, Dennis Corcoran, Robb Dagenais, Peter De Marco, Sara Ehrhardt, George Fawcett, Mary Fragedakis, John Kladitis, Michael Mitchell, Caryma Sa’d, Dianne Saxe, Devyn Stackhouse, Jason Stevens, Christiane Tetreault, Maria Voutsinas and Denise Walcott.)
Jason Stevens, who owned Jays Gourmet Vegan Catering in the 2000s with customers Alex Tilley (Tilley Endurables) and Jack Layton, will run for Council on Oct. 26, 2026!
Jason has experience in government and community service as an elected national NGO director in Toronto and Ottawa. He has served on the executive of the Canadian Club and always advocates for the lower and middle class.
Jason Stevens has a psychology degree from McMaster where he was elected MSU president and won the highest award for Community Service in 1996.
In 1996 Jason met and did advocacy for two men of colour, members of the Black Panthers, wrongfully imprisoned as evidence points to in New York. Jason has volunteered for anti poverty groups, served as a hike leader for the Toronto Bruce Trail and briefly worked for MPP solicitor general David Christopherson under the (Bob) Rae government.
Jason is also an RCM clarinet grad, uncle and community builder who says:
“I’m running because I love Torontonians and as a resident of Toronto-Danforth I hope to repair both physical infrastructure and the spirit our residents facing economic hardship have endured. I’m a councillor here to serve not rule!”
