Teen charged after BB gun allegedly brandished in East Toronto incident
A 15-year-old male has been arrested and is facing charges in connection to an alleged firearm incident that took place in East Toronto earlier this week.
According to police, officers responded to a call for a person with a gun in the Gerrard Street East and Broadview Avenue area on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at approximately 9:24 a.m.
Police alleged two people were involved in a verbal confrontation outside a local school. Police said a male then allegedly displayed what appeared to be a firearm, before fleeing the area on foot. Several schools in the area were placed in hold and secure while police investigated the incident.
Police said in a news release on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 17, that a suspect was identified and the accused surrendered himself at 55 Division.
Police said the firearm in the alleged incident was a BB gun.
The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon and having a facemask/being disguised.
