Public information event on Scarborough Bluffs West Project set for tonight

A community drop-in event tonight will provide local residents with more information about the Scarborough Bluffs West Project.
The event is at Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute, 3663 Danforth Ave., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1.
Involving both the City of Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the Bluffs West project is exploring the enhancement and protection of the Lake Ontario shoreline in the area between Silver Birch Avenue in the Beach and Bluffer’s Park (foot of Brimley Road) in Scarborough.
Basically, the project is considering ways to improve how people access, move through, and experience the waterfront; preserve and enhance the natural environment, including the significance of the Scarborough Bluffs; and minimize natural hazards and risks to public safety caused by erosion.
Tonight’s event is sharing information and seeking public input on the project as part of the ongoing Environmental Assessment of the area.
As of May 26, information on the project and scenarios for the area can be viewed at https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/get-involved/public-consultations/infrastructure-projects/scarborough-bluffs-west-revitalization/?WT.rd_id=%2FScarboroughBluffsWest
Those who go to the above website are also invited to provide their feedback on a number of alternatives for the area through an online survey that will be available until June 30.
Originally referred to as the Scarborough Bluffs West Revitalization Project, discussions on plans for the area have been ongoing since 2021.
Toronto Council requested the TRCA include the project in the 2022 budget process, and it officially began in November of 2023 with several rounds of study and consultation throughout the following year. In July 2024, a draft Terms of Reference report was released for public comment and agency review.
The project is following the Comprehensive Environmental Assessment process which “promotes good environmental planning” by determining and managing its potential impacts prior to implementation.
Both the Terms of Reference of the project and the Environmental Assessment must be reviewed by Ontario’s Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks before moving on to the detailed design and construction phase.
More information is also available on the project by emailing the Scarborough Bluffs West Project Team at ScarboroughBluffsWest@toronto.ca or calling 416-338-2850.
