East Toronto residents are reminded that the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway will be closed on Sunday, May 31, for the Bike for Brain Health event.

Closures will begin at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The Gardiner Expressway will be closed in both directions from South Kingsway to the DVP, while the DVP will be shut down in both directions from Lake Shore Boulevard to Hwy. 401. Several Gardiner Expressway ramps, including Rees, Spadina, Jameson and South Kingsway, will also be impacted.

All roads are expected to re-open by 4 p.m. on May 31.

Toronto police are strongly recommending that drivers looking to enter the downtown area seek alternative routes or use public transit.

Locally, East Toronto residents should be aware that a closure of the DVP usually results in increased traffic along Kingston Road and Victoria Park Avenue.

The Bike for Brain Health will be starting at the Aga Khan museum near Eglinton Avenue, offering a 30, 60 and 90 kilometre route to suit all skill levels. Check-In will begin at 5 a.m., with cyclists taking off at 6 a.m. Registration costs $75 for participants aged 16 and older, and $25 for riders 15 and under.

Riders 16 and older must also meet a minimum fundraising requirement of $195, not including the registration fee. Participants 15 and under are only required to pay the $25 registration fee.

Donations from the fundraiser will be going towards the Baycrest Foundation, providing funding for critical research into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, cognition and brain health, as well as support programs and services for aging populations.
