Man found fatally stabbed in East York identified as 27-year-old Ahmed Hassan Asif

Ahmed Hassan Asif, 27, has been identified by Toronto police as the victim of a fatal stabbing last night in the area of Gamble and Donlands avenues on the night of Wednesday, March 25.

Toronto police are investigating after a 27-year-old man was fatally stabbed last night in East York.

Ahmed Hassan Asif, 27, found in the area of Donlands and Cosburn avenues on the night of Wednesday, March 25. He was was suffering from stab wounds and succumbed to his injuries.

Police are still searching for a male suspect in connection with the incident.

At press conference on the morning of Thursday, March 26, Det.-Sgt. Sajeev Nair of the Toronto police homicide squad urged the suspect to turn himself in.

“We are going door to door looking for video surveillance. It’s going be of immense value in this case,” said Nair at the press conference held at the corner of Todmorden Lane and Gamble Avenue. “Also, to the suspect, we are coming for you. My best advice to you, is to contact a lawyer and turn yourself in. We are going to catch you.”

At around 9:34 p.m. last night, Toronto police responded to a call for unknown trouble in the area. According to police, an altercation was heard at the rear of a low rise apartment building in the area.

Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot after being involved in an auto collision on Gamble Avenue just east of Todmorden Lane.

Nair said Asif, who did not reside locally, is from the Greater Toronto Area but would not specify exactly where.

“I can tell you the victim was a very hardworking young man and he’s going to be missed by his family,” said Nair.

Hassan is Toronto’s fifth homicide victim of 2026.

He added there will be a “visible police presence in the area, for the next couple of days at least” as officers work on the case and canvas in the area.

Forensics, 55 Division officers, Special Constables, officers from nearby divisions, homicide and the canine unit were in the area of the stabbing looking for evidence last night.

A white vehicle which had been in a connected collision has been seized and taken into forensics for examination, said Nair. Police did not discuss the details of the collision or the vehicle seized.

“At this particular time I’m not going to discuss items that are evidentiary in nature, but I can tell you that our canine unit was out last night and they were out there looking for evidence,” said Nair.

The suspect is being described as male and wearing dark clothing.
