History of the Upper Beach focus of presentation slated for March 5

The Morning Parade Coffee Bar on Gerrard Street East near Woodbine Avenue will be hosting an afternoon of historical tales, tracing back the history and heritage of the Upper Beach area this week.
Hosted by Beach realtor and local musician, composer and poet Mark Battenberg, the A Tale of Two Villages History in the Upper Beach From Glaciation to Amalagamation presentation will take place on Thursday, March 5, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The presentation will cover the decline of the great glaciers, the First Nations People, Kingston Road and its importance during the War of 1812, and the villages of Norway and Benlamond which were the cornerstones of the Upper Beach as it grew along what was The Kings Highway in the mid 1800s.
Also to be discussed will be Coleman’s Corners, Little York village, the founding of the Village of East Toronto Village, and the rise and fall of the Grand Trunk Railroad through the area.
The Morning Parade Coffee Bar is located at 1952 Gerrard St E., just east of Woodbine Avenue.
