Local resident Ben Stellino promotes benefits of topical gel to help those dealing with pain and soreness

Upper Beach resident Ben Stellino is introducing her newest entrepreneurial connection to help those in need of pain relief.
LactiGo is a topical gel for inflammation in the muscles and joints. It differs from other on-the-market topical ointments due to its transdermal absorption, said Stellino.
“It’s not just for athletes, because we all move, we all have pain. So that’s how I got involved, and I’m very passionate about it, just as I was with the red-light therapy,” said Stellino, who has fibromyalgia which is a chronic pain condition that results in muscle pain and fatigue.
Partnering with Kevin Atkinson, who purchased the patent from a Milan-based pharmaceutical company in 2008, Lactigo now holds patents in 44 countries around the world. The company is currently selling the product in Canada and The United States in online sales, as well as to medical practitioners, chiropractors and sports teams.
“The gel contains carnosine and magnesium and works by absorbing through the skin of the affected area, penetrating into the muscles and joints to repair cellular damage and inflammation,” said Stellino.
“It buffers lactic acid and that’s not just with athletes. If you’re shovelling the snow and you feel soreness, it helps with it.”
Former National Hockey League players Karl Alzner, Eric Fehr and Jay Beagle are also involved with LactiGo. Fehr is on the board of directors for LactiGo as well as the pharmaceutical company Ethoderm which researches and produces the formula. Alzner and Beagle are active investors.
In March, LactiGo will be launching a pet-friendly version of the product.
