Man, 49, facing assault with a weapon charges after incident at demonstration near Danforth and Pape avenues

A man is facing charges of assault with a weapon after a demonstration in the Pape and Danforth avenues area yesterday.
Police were present in the area on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at about 5:30 p.m., where a demonstration was taking place.
In a news release on Jan. 15, police said a man approached a demonstrator and a verbal altercation escalated to the point where the victim was allegedly assaulted with a hand-held speaker. Police said that a second demonstrator, who police said had attempted to de-escalate the situation, was also allegedly assaulted.
Omer Lifshitz, 49, of Toronto, has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.
