Beacher’s business Joeydolls to be featured on episode of Dragon’s Den tonight

Beacher Samantha Ong is shown with some of the Joeydolls.

Joeydolls, launched by Beach resident Samantha Ong in May of 2023 to empower children with inclusive dolls, will be featured on an episode of Dragon’s Den Canada scheduled to air tonight.

The episode is set to be screened on Thursday, Jan. 15, on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

Following the filming and preparation for the episode in early December of last year, a rockslide caused the derailment of the CN train carrying Joeydolls’ entire shipment of Canadian orders, new products and restocks. The company lost more than $200,000 in holiday sales revenue and $50,000 in pre-paid production and shipping costs, said Ong.

Support from the community through kind words on social media, additional orders, donations and grants helped Joeydolls pull through, while Ong said she went to their U.S. warehouse, manually collected orders, and drove them back home to ship out for the holidays.

“We rushed to shift inventory from the U.S. to cover Canadian orders and managed to get through the holidays, though we’re still operating with very limited stock and many items are now on pre-order for our Dragons’ Den feature as well as Lunar New Year,” she said.
