In Photos: Balmy Beach Canoe Club’s Hair of the Dog welcomes 2026

Despite the frigid temperatures, a large number of runners and walkers turned out on New Year’s Day to take part in the annual Hair of the Dog Run along the Boardwalk.

Taking place since 1980, the walk/run is a fundraiser in support of the Balmy Beach Canoe Club.

Though it was a chilly start to 2026 on Thursday, Jan. 1, enthusiastic walkers and runners took part in the event which featured either a three-kilometre walk or a nine-kilometre run.

Both the run and the walk started and finished on the Boardwalk at the Balmy Beach Club.
