Letters to the Editor: Aurora House reaches out to community for support

Aurora House has been part of the Beach community since 2016.

A letter to our Beach neighbours from Aurora House:

Dear Neighbours,

You may not know us, and you may never see our front door, but Aurora House has been part of the Beach community since 2016.

We operate quietly, intentionally and necessarily, to protect the safety and privacy of the women and families who stay with us. Though our home is at a confidential location, our roots are here.

And today, we are reaching out to you, our neighbours, for support.

Aurora House is a transitional home for women and families fleeing violence, exploitation, and human trafficking.

For nearly 10 years, our doors have opened to survivors at some of the most painful moments of their lives. Many arrive with nothing more than courage. Some come directly from unsafe situations. Others from shelters or safe houses. All come needing the same things: safety, dignity, and stability.

Inside our house, they begin again. They heal. They regain their footing. They prepare for the next chapter of their lives with the support of our small but deeply dedicated team.

And though our work happens quietly, its impact lives throughout our community.

As we approach our 10-year anniversary in 2026, we are launching a new campaign: Safety. Dignity. Stability., and we are asking you to stand with us.

We have set a bold but essential goal: to raise $100,000 for urgent capital upgrades that will allow us to continue offering the safest possible environment for survivors. This includes modernized security systems, room and facility improvements, and necessary repairs that come with operating a home that supports families 365 days a year.

We are proud of the work that has happened within our walls. But to continue it, and to prepare Aurora House for the next decade, we need the support of the neighbourhood we call home.

If you are able, we invite you to make a direct donation to our campaign by going online to https://www.aurorahouse.ca/

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to ensuring women and children fleeing violence have a safe and dignified place to rebuild their lives.

The Beach has long been known as a community that shows up for one another.

Many of the women who come through Aurora House go on to become strong, independent members of Canadian society, but the first step is simply having a safe place to rest, recover, and rebuild. With your help, we can continue to offer that.

With gratitude.
