Balmy Beach Canoe Club’s Hair of the Dog Run to welcome 2026 with New Year’s Day run/walk

The Balmy Beach Canoe Club’s annual Hair of the Dog Run will welcome 2026 on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 1.

The run begins on New Year’s Day morning on the Boardwalk at the Balmy Beach Club, 360 Lake Front, with participants starting to gather at 11 a.m.

The Hair of the Dog Run will celebrate its 44th edition with the 2026 run.

The event first took place in 1980 and has has become a New Year’s Day tradition for many local residents.

Funds raised at the Hair of the Dog Run go to support the amateur athletics programs at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club.

The event is open to serious runners, recreational walkers, adults, children and entire families.

Participants have the choice of doing either a three-kilometre walk or a nine-kilometre run.

The walk starts at 11:30 a.m. and the run begins at noon. The start and finish line is on the Boardwalk, south side of the Balmy Beach Club.

For the 2026 run, participants have a pair of registration options.

Those wanting to enjoy a chili lunch after taking part in the walk or the run, can sign up for the full Hair of the Dog experience which includes food served in the Balmy Beach Club’s main hall.

For those who only wish to take part in the walk or run, that is also an option. Those who are only walking or running will not have access to the Balmy Beach Club building.

There are a variety of price ranges for tickets depending on the options chosen.
