Local residents are invited to celebrate the holiday season with a tree lighting ceremony and community skate at Greenwood Park today.

Hosted by Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher and the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation department, the celebration takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at Greenwood Park, 150 Greenwood Ave.

The tree lighting is set for 5:30 p.m.

There will be hot chocolate, winter crafts, holiday treats and ‘Superhero” skate at this celebration. Those taking part in the skate are encouraged to wear a cape to celebrate the (super) power of the East Toronto community. Extra capes will be available to borrow.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a donation of a non-perishable food item for local food banks helping those in need during the holiday season.
