Additional community consultation meeting on building proposal for 1099 Broadview Ave. slated for Nov. 12

By MATTHEW STEPHENS
An in-person community consultation meeting for a residential development proposal at 1099 Broadview Ave., between Mortimer and Cosburn avenues, will be taking place for East York residents on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The proposal for the building with tower heights of 16 and 14 storeys is moving back to the community consultation phase following Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher’s disapproval of unforeseen changes to the application.
“It’s important to ensure that members of the community have a chance to review changes to the proposal,” said Fletcher in an interview with Beach Metro Community News.
The proposal was first submitted to the City of Toronto back in 2023, and a community consultation was held in September of that year before the item was forwarded to Toronto and East York Community Council on Oct. 22, 2025.
At the October Community Council meeting, Fletcher noted significant changes to the application’s gross floor area (GFA) since the proposal was first submitted for approval two years ago.
The updated proposal is now requesting the construction of a C-shaped residential building with a 14-storey building element to the north and a 16-storey element to the south connected by a five-storey podium, which will include 313 residential units and approximately 630 square metres of non-residential space on the ground floor, as well as 363 bicycle and 213 vehicle parking spaces.
In light of the new changes made apparent at the Community Council meeting, Fletcher passed a motion to reconsider the item at the upcoming Nov. 27 Toronto and East York Community Council meeting, and requested city staff to hold another formal community consultation meeting to revisit the revised proposal prior to it coming up again before Community Council.
Fletcher said changes to the proposal that are unknown to the public goes against the “rights of the communities” within her ward.
The new in-person community consultation meeting will be held on Nov. 12 at East End United Ministry, (310 Danforth Ave.) in the Hurndale Room.
The meeting will commence with an open house from 7:30 to 8 p.m., after which, a presentation will run from 8 to 8:20, followed by a discussion period until 9 p.m.
